The first woman ever appointed to the Ninth Judicial District trial court bench, Judge Lois J. Lang, has used her considerable experience and principled background to serve the people of the Ninth Judicial District since 1994.
Judge Lang was appointed a District Court Judge by the Governor following screening by the Commission on Judicial Selection.  She was elected to a six-year term as Ninth Judicial District trial court judge in 1996.  Judge Lang was re-elected in 2002.
Prior to being appointed to the bench, Judge Lang practiced law in Bemidji, Minnesota, from 1979 to 1994.  She was an attorney with the Powell Law Office and in 1983 became a partner in Powell and Lang.  Judge Lang has almost 30 years experience as an attorney and judge and has spent her entire legal career in the Ninth Judicial District.
One of five children, Judge Lang grew up on a farm near Henning, Minnesota.  Her father worked on the ore boats on the Great Lakes and her mother was a homemaker.
